Chairman of the Senate Faisal Al-Fayez Holds Talks with Iraqi Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani

Amman – Faisal Al-Fayez, Chairman of the Senate, stated that the Iraq-Jordan oil pipeline project represents a strategic interest for both brotherly countries.

This came during discussions held today at the Senate House with the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, in the presence of several heads of parliamentary blocs and committees in the Iraqi Parliament, along with the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan, Omar Ahmed Karim Al-Birzanjy.

From the Jordanian side, the discussions were attended by the Second Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Dr. Abdullah Al-Nsour, President’s Assistant Dr. Zuhair Abu Faris, and Senators Salama Hammad, Ali Al-Ayed, and Mazen Darwazah.

At the beginning of his remarks, Al-Fayez praised that the first visit of the Iraqi Speaker of Parliament to Jordan sends a clear message highlighting the deep strategic relations between the two brotherly countries.

Al-Fayez spoke about the bilateral relations and the high level they have reached in various fields, emphasizing that these are deep-rooted, historic relations based on mutual respect, benefiting the interests of both countries and peoples, strengthening joint Arab action, and supporting the just causes of the Arab nation.

He added, “Based on the brotherly relations and cooperation between our two countries, and under the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II, we are committed to maintaining coordination and consultation with our brotherly Iraq in all areas that ensure its security, stability, and territorial integrity. We are always by Iraq’s side in confronting its various challenges.”

Al-Fayez emphasized the importance of building on these brotherly relations and enhancing them at all levels, particularly in boosting economic cooperation, increasing joint investments, activating bilateral agreements, and speeding up the implementation of agreed projects so that economic and trade relations return to their previous state.

He noted that “the difficult circumstances facing our Arab nation today, which resembles a new Sykes-Picot phase, make us fear the potential division of our countries. Our region has become a battleground for international and regional conflicts, with each side pursuing its own interests.”

Al-Fayez stressed that “this painful reality requires us to intensify our efforts to face our shared political and security challenges and to confront the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The Israeli occupation is waging a genocide against Palestinians, ignoring international legitimacy resolutions and all humanitarian and ethical standards.”

Al-Fayez reaffirmed that “in light of Israel's attempts to annex the occupied West Bank and the international support it receives for its crimes and expansionist policies, we in Jordan reject the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, reject any solutions to the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan and its national principles, and will firmly confront any attempts to tamper with our supreme interests, security, and stability.”

Regarding the situation in Syria, Al-Fayez stated, “We in Jordan affirm the unity, security, and stability of Syrian territory. The security and stability of Syria are fundamental to the security and stability of the region, and we will stand with its brotherly people in rebuilding Syria as a unified, independent, stable, and secure Arab state for all its citizens.”

He highlighted that “what Syria is going through today requires the solidarity of the Syrian people, with all their components, political, social, and civil forces, to build the secure, stable, and unified Syria that the Syrian people deserve after long years of suffering and sacrifices.”

Al-Fayez strongly condemned Israel's intrusion into the buffer zone with Syria and surrounding areas in Mount Sheikh and the Quneitra and Damascus countryside, stressing the importance of the immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces. He stated that the Golan is Syrian Arab land under occupation that must end, calling on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take the necessary steps to stop this Israeli aggression against Syria and its people.

For his part, Iraqi Speaker of Parliament Al-Mashhadani spoke about the importance of unifying the Arab front on various issues of the nation, stressing that the stronger the political, economic, and security ties between Arab countries, the more they can confront the plans targeting them.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing Iraqi-Jordanian cooperation in various political, economic, and security fields, as well as continuing the exchange of information and expertise between the two brotherly countries.

Al-Mashhadani confirmed Iraq’s support for Jordan, rejecting all plans related to the forced displacement of Palestinians, and praised Jordan’s historical and honorable positions toward Iraq.

He explained that his visit to Jordan, the first country after his election as Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, carries great significance and sends a clear message. It highlights the geographical proximity between the two countries, the closeness of their peoples, and Jordan’s historical support for Iraq's stability and security.

The senators also discussed the importance of achieving economic integration between Iraq and Jordan and enhancing cooperation at all levels and across various fields. They emphasized the strategic and economic importance of the Iraq-Jordan oil pipeline project for both brotherly countries.

They affirmed the strategic nature of the Jordanian-Iraqi relationship and the necessity of building on and enhancing it in various fields for the benefit of both countries and their peoples, noting that Iraq represents a strategic depth for Jordan, just as Jordan is for Iraq.

Iraqi parliamentarians also expressed their full support for the oil pipeline project, pointing out the importance of activating bilateral agreements, especially in security and economic fields, to address the current challenges facing the Arab region and combat terrorism and extremism.

They noted that there are many areas for collaboration between the two brotherly countries, including electricity linkage, water sector management, and information technology. They emphasized that Jordan has always been by Iraq’s side in every challenge it faced and has never hesitated to offer any advice aimed at ensuring Iraq’s stability, security, and the unity of its people and territory.
