Amman, January 7 - The Energy and Mineral Resources Committee of the Senate, headed by Senator Eng. Farouk Al-Hayari, met today, Tuesday, with Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission Board of Commissioners Eng. Ziad Al-Sa'aideh.
Senator Al-Hayari spoke about the importance of the energy file in the Kingdom and its effects on the national economy, stressing that it represents an essential part of the economic modernization plan.
He explained the importance of the regulatory and supervisory role of the commission on the sector, to ensure raising the level of service provided, operating efficiency, reducing energy costs for citizens and various economic sectors, covering increasing electrical loads, and maintaining the pace of encouraging the use of renewable energy.
He stressed that the technical sector in Jordan in the field of energy is one of the best developed sectors in the Middle East.
For his part, Al-Sa'aideh said that the commission's strategy and priorities are in line with the economic modernization vision, and aim to maintain energy supply security and diversify its sources.
He pointed out the importance of increasing the contribution of local energy sources and achieving the principle of self-reliance, raising the contribution of renewable energy, and reducing energy costs on the national economy, noting the importance of maintaining the stability of the electrical system and addressing cases of tampering with it. He explained that the Authority plays a regulatory and supervisory role over licensed entities operating in all sectors that fall within its jurisdiction, which include the electricity sector, renewable energy, oil and its derivatives, natural gas, radioactive and nuclear work, in addition to the natural resources sector.
