Senate Finance Committee Discusses Government's Economic Policies

Amman, July 30 - The Senate Finance and Economic Committee discussed the government's economic policies with the ministerial economic team on Wednesday during a meeting chaired by Senator Dr. Rajai Muasher.

Muasher stressed the importance of periodically reviewing the government's economic and financial plans in light of the rapidly evolving regional events and the decisions related to customs tariffs on imports and their impact on the Economic Modernization Vision. He pointed to the impact on tourism, investment flows, and an analysis of economic growth and unemployment figures.

Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh said that the government is in the process of developing an executive program for the Economic Modernization Vision (2026-2029) by mid-September. He emphasized the government's commitment to taking the necessary measures to stimulate economic growth, in accordance with the royal directives and vision for modernization, and to enhance confidence in the national economy.

Members of the economic team presented the most important national economic indicators as of the end of May. Revenues reached JD4.67 billion, and capital expenditures reached JD425 million, compared to JD375 million for the same period last year. The government also continued to reduce public debt to 80 percent of GDP by 2028. It also increased investment volume and the number of registered companies by 35 percent, and increased the number of tourists by 3 percent. It also implemented measures to promote renewable energy and green hydrogen, expand the use of natural gas in the industrial sector, and conclude new agreements in the mining sector.

The economic team included the Ministers of Tourism, Lina Annab; Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah; Energy, Saleh Kharabsheh; Investment, Muthanna Gharaibeh; Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Touqan; and Finance, Abdul Hakim Al-Shibli.
