Amman – Dr. Haitham Al-Saraireh, Assistant Secretary-General of the Senate, met with a delegation of officers from the Jordanian Armed Forces who are enrolled in the Defense Resources Course for Officers (12), to learn about the workings of the Senate and the legislative process.
Al-Saraireh explained that the legislative authority, represented by the National Assembly, consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and outlined the process of forming the Senate and appointing its members.
He also spoke about the role of the Senate in the legislative life and how it operates to legislate laws through its permanent committees, in addition to the friendship and cooperation committees, which help enhance bilateral relations between the Kingdom and countries around the world.
Al-Saraireh highlighted the sessions held to discuss law proposals and the process of legislating them under the dome, as well as the oversight role of the National Assembly, including both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
He added that the legislative process involves either accepting, rejecting, or amending any of the law proposals presented by the government to both chambers, emphasizing the need for both chambers to agree in order to pass any proposed law.
For their part, the delegation members raised several inquiries and questions regarding the legislative process and the role of the Senate in this process, to which Al-Saraireh responded to all the questions and inquiries.
The delegation also presented Al-Saraireh with a commemorative shield, and concluded their visit with a tour inside the halls of the Senate and the Parliament dome.
