Amman, May 8 – The Senate’s Agriculture and Water Committee, chaired by Senator Akef Al-Zoubi, on Thursday approved the 2025 Cooperative Law as received from the House of Representatives, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture Eng. Khaled Hneifat and Director General of the Cooperative Corporation Abdul Fattah Al-Shibli.
According to the explanatory memorandum, the draft law aims to enhance the role of the Cooperative Corporation in supervising and regulating the cooperative sector, forming its board of directors, and promoting the participation of the cooperative sector and women, in response to the outcomes of the National Cooperative Movement Strategy.
The proposed law seeks to establish a Cooperative Development Fund within the Corporation to provide necessary financing to the cooperative sector through loans and grants. It also proposes the creation of a Cooperative Development Institute within the Corporation to promote cooperative culture and offer training courses, seminars, and workshops related to cooperative work. Furthermore, the law mandates cooperatives, unions, and the general federation to register or establish themselves with the Corporation. It also aims to regulate the process of obtaining funding from donor and international entities for cooperatives, unions, and the general federation, as well as the mechanism for registering branches of foreign cooperatives and cooperative unions in the Kingdom in accordance with applicable legislation.
