Senate Energy Committee Visits National Petroleum Company

Amman, June 23 – The Senate Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, headed by Engineer Farouq Al-Hiyari, visited the National Petroleum Company on Monday to review the company's operations and its efforts to extract and exploit natural gas from the Risha field in the eastern part of the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Al-Hiyari highlighted the importance of utilizing natural resources, particularly the development and exploitation of the Risha gas field, in line with the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision in this area. This will contribute to enhancing reliance on local resources for electricity generation, reducing production and operational costs for various economic sectors, and creating job opportunities, which will positively impact the national economy.

He added that the Senate, through the Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, will continue to support the efforts of the National Petroleum Company and enable it to implement the projects and programs of its strategic plan.

For his part, the company's General Manager, Eng. Mohammed Al-Khasawneh, reviewed the efforts made to develop the Risha gas field, noting that the company has developed a strategic plan for the years (2025-2030) that includes accelerating production operations by increasing the number of wells and rigs operating in the field, expanding the gas processing plant, and intensifying the marketing of locally produced quantities.

He emphasized that increasing production quantities and delivering gas to industrial cities will significantly contribute to reducing energy costs for national industries and support the drive toward achieving self-sufficiency in natural gas.

During the visit, committee members listened to a detailed presentation on the company's current and future plans, the mechanisms and technologies used in drilling, and the role of national cadres in implementing these projects.

The committee members praised the national role played by the Jordan National Petroleum Company, noting that its efforts in gas exploration and exploitation will enhance energy security in the Kingdom and reduce dependence on imports.
