Senate Services Committee Visits Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship

Amman, June 3 - The Senate Public Services Committee, headed by Senator Dr. Mustafa Hamarneh, visited the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship on Tuesday to review the progress of work and follow up on the implementation of the ministry's digital strategy.

During the visit, the committee met with the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Engineer Sami Smeirat, who gave a detailed presentation on the ministry's most prominent projects and initiatives in the areas of digital transformation, developing e-government services, and enhancing the entrepreneurship and innovation environment.

Smeirat emphasized that the ministry, in line with the Economic Modernization Vision, seeks to enable digital transformation across all governorates of the Kingdom and bridge the knowledge gap by providing advanced digital infrastructure and advanced e-services, achieving digital justice and expanding access to services.

He explained that 67.5 percent of government services had been digitized by the end of last month. The "Sanad" app currently provides 500 e-services, with an expected increase to 700 by the end of this year. Regarding digital identity, he indicated that 1,690,000 digital identities have been activated, out of a targeted 2 million.

For his part, Al-Hamarneh emphasized the importance of the Ministry's role in leading digital transformation efforts at the national level, emphasizing the need to enhance cooperation between various government agencies to ensure effective implementation of the digital strategy and achieve sustainable development.

He pointed out the importance of ensuring that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship's strategy is fully aligned with economic modernization plans and contributes directly to bridging the knowledge gap by developing technology tools and expanding equitable access to digital services for all citizens. This ensures inclusive development and enhances the capabilities of youth in various governorates.

Al-Hamarneh stated that the visit is part of the committee's efforts to enhance cooperation and coordination and monitor government performance in the areas of digital transformation and entrepreneurship, in order to serve national goals.

During the visit, the main challenges facing the implementation of digital projects were discussed, as well as ways to enhance coordination and integration between relevant government agencies to ensure effective and integrated implementation.
