National Conference on Higher Education Continues Its Sessions

Dead Sea, May 9 – The National Conference on Higher Education: From Vision to Implementation, organized by the Senate’s Public Services Committee in cooperation with nine joint committees, continued its work for a second consecutive day on Friday at the Dead Sea.

The sessions on the second day presented working papers that addressed proposals aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of higher education in Jordan, contributing to the translation of the national vision for reforming the higher education system.

Participants showcased the outputs of national committees formed to modernize the academic system and discussed a practical roadmap that could accelerate progress in higher education reform. The aim is to support institutional flexibility and serve as a reference framework for universities to develop future policies and programs aligned with modernization and sustainable transformation.

In the first session, moderated by Dr. Obada Al-Habashneh, President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nathir Obeidat, presented the findings of the Committee on Enhancing Scientific Research, which he chairs. Valentina Qussisiya, CEO of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, presented the results of the Committee on Advancing Research in Social and Human Sciences. Senator Dr. Abla Amawi shared the outcomes of the Bridge Programs Committee, while Maha Al-Baho discussed the Committee on Knowledge Transfer Units and Strategic Partnerships.

The second session, moderated by Dr. Ahoud Kamal, featured Senator Dr. Mustafa Hamarneh, Chair of the Public Services Committee, and Dr. Mamoun Akroush presenting the findings of the Committee on Curriculum Planning. Senator Dr. Haifa Al-Najjar, Chair of the Culture, Youth, and Sports Committee, presented the results of the Committee on Campus Life Development. Senator Dr. Mahasen Al-Jaghoub discussed the outputs of the Committee on University Legislation Reform, and Senator Badrieh Al-Balbisi presented the findings of the Committee on Diversifying Funding Sources.

The third session, led by Dr. Reda Shibli Al-Khawaldeh, focused on successful institutional transformation stories shared by university board chairpersons. They demonstrated how university boards converted major challenges into strategic opportunities through innovative solutions and governance practices. The discussion highlighted how good governance can drive qualitative transformation in university performance, improve education and research, enhance operational services, and increase institutional competitiveness.

Participants in this session included Dr. Adnan Badran (University of Jordan), Dr. Abdul Raheem Al-Hunaiti (Al-Hussein Bin Talal University), and Dr. Yaacoub Nasreddin (Middle East University).

The fourth and fifth sessions showcased real-life success stories of institutional models implemented in Jordanian universities, which led to transformational change and strategic turning points in their development. These stories demonstrated the tangible positive impact on education quality, administrative efficiency, and academic reputation.

The fourth session, moderated by Dr. Suhad Al-Jundi, featured Dr. Islam Massad (Yarmouk University), Dr. Bassam Al-Mahasneh (Tafila Technical University), Dr. Osama Naseer (Al al-Bayt University), and Dr. Khaled Al-Hayari (Hashemite University).

The fifth session, moderated by Dima Bibi, included contributions from Dr. Ismail Al-Hunaiti (Al-Hussein Technical University), Dr. Mamoun Akroush (American University of Madaba), Dr. Sari Hamdan (Amman Arab University), Dr. Salam Mahadeen (Middle East University), and Dr. Rami Abdul Rahim (University of Petra).
