Senate Agriculture Committee Meets with Jordan Food Systems Transformation Initiative Team

Amman, April 7 - The Senate Agriculture and Water Committee, chaired by Senator Dr. Akef Al-Zoubi, met on Monday with the expert team from the Jordan Food Systems Transformation Initiative, a collaboration between the Jordanian and Dutch governments.

Senator Al-Zoubi spoke about the importance of the initiative in supporting the government's efforts to build a systematic, practical model for food security, which Jordan is working to achieve under the royal directives and tireless efforts.

He pointed to the importance of government governance of food security and the need to work to change food culture and consumption and reduce food waste. He emphasized the importance of effective investment in government policies aimed at strengthening food security governance.

He also addressed the government's ongoing efforts in this area, including intensifying the policies necessary to achieve food security and implementing executive plans stemming from strategies for all sectors related to food security.

For his part, the head of the initiative's team, Dr. Walid Abd Rabbo, spoke about the initiative's work program, which focuses on transforming food systems and supporting the roadmap for that transformation. He highlighted the importance of reaching a shared understanding among all stakeholders of the current food system, and exploring and analyzing its implications and various scenarios, in order to contribute to shaping the targeted food system.

After discussion with the initiative team, the committee members recommended supporting the initiative and monitoring the efforts of its various stakeholders. They emphasized the importance of the initiative's conference, scheduled to be held in Amman next June.
