Daoudieh on Press Day: Journalists Are a Fundamental Pillar in Building National Awareness

The Chairman of the Media and National Guidance Committee in the Senate, Senator Mohammad Daoudieh, affirmed that Jordanian journalism has always been and continues to be a fundamental pillar in supporting the nation's journey, entrenching the values of freedom, responsibility, transparency, and safeguarding national awareness.

In a statement on the occasion of Press Day, Daoudieh said this day represents an opportunity to renew the commitment to free speech and to pause in appreciation and respect for those working in the field of journalism and media, who continue to fulfill their noble mission despite economic and professional challenges.

He added that the Media and National Guidance Committee in the Senate places great importance on media freedoms and supports efforts to develop media legislation in a way that enhances the independence of journalism, protects journalists, and ensures a safe and encouraging environment for practicing journalism freely and responsibly.

He pointed out that national journalism has, over the decades, proven its ability to be the voice of the nation and the eyes of the citizens, and has contributed to defending the causes of the nation. He stressed that free and responsible media is one of the pillars of a democratic state and an effective tool in development and preserving stability.

Daoudieh concluded his remarks by saluting Jordanian journalists, praising their great role, sacrifices, and high professionalism, and reaffirming the Council's continued support for them in promoting freedom of expression and establishing the role of journalism as an independent and effective oversight authority.
