Amman, May 6 - The Senate Education Committee, headed by Senator Dr. Wajih Oweis, visited the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts on Tuesday and met with its Director General, Jacques Roussel, and his Deputy, Asem Oweis.
Senator Oweis stated that the visit aimed to review the academy's plans and its contribution to maintaining the quality of education and its outcomes. He noted that the academy receives the continued support of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
He explained that the visit also aimed to learn about the academy's programs accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Swiss University of Lausanne, and to learn about the academy's contribution to supporting the labor market in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Rousssel spoke about the academy, a technical university college established in 2008 as an initiative of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development with the aim of raising the level of education in the tourism sector and redirecting young men and women toward education relevant to the labor market.
He explained that the academy is a participating member of the University of Lausanne's accredited school network, noting that the academy currently awards bachelor's degrees in food and beverage management and a diploma in culinary arts.
Academy officials took the dignitaries on a tour of the academy's facilities, which include several kitchens equipped to resemble the work environment of five-star hotels, a room service department, classrooms, restaurants, and a library specializing in culinary arts and food and beverage management, the first of its kind in the region.
At the end of their tour, the senators, Dr. Suad Al -Jundi, Dr. Yassin Al -Hasban, Michel Nazzal, Dr. Hayel Obaidat, Dr. Mahasin Jagoub, and Dr. Salah Al -Hasla, met with a group of academy students, where they listened to their academic experience in the academy.
