Senate Finance Committee Approves Customs Amendment
Amman, April 6 - The Senate Finance and Economic Committee, chaired by Senator Dr. Rajai Muasher, approved a draft law amending the Jordanian Customs Law of 2025, as submitted by the House of Representatives, with some amendments.
This came during the committee's meeting on Sunday, attended by Minister of Finance Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Shibli and Director General of the Customs Department Ahmed Al-Akalik.
The amended draft law, based on the justifications, aims to develop the department's work, achieve greater flexibility in procedures, and raise the efficiency of customs work, which will contribute to improving the investment environment and enhancing economic competitiveness. It also enables the department to carry out customs clearance procedures through specialized personnel affiliated with the department, who exercise the powers of the relevant oversight bodies to implement the prohibitions and restrictions stipulated in relevant legislation within customs centers. This will also include conducting subsequent audits in accordance with World Customs Organization methodologies, and expediting goods clearance procedures within an integrated framework that enables it to implement the provisions of the Customs Law.
It also allows the Department to conduct electronic notifications of decisions and papers issued by it and organized in accordance with the provisions of the law, to facilitate the established customs procedures, and to enable the Department to conduct inspections without requiring the presence of the interested party or his representative in person when electronic systems exist that enable him to view the inspection procedures, and to enable the Department to obtain the necessary information and documents required by the Department’s work to implement the provisions of the law, taking into account not compromising the confidentiality of banking operations.
