Senate Finance Committee Discusses Strategies of Ministries of Labor and Transport

Amman, January 8 - The Finance and Economic Committee of the Senate, headed by Dr. Rajai Al-Muasher, discussed in two separate sessions today, Wednesday, the strategies of the Ministries of Labor and Transport.

Muasher said that the committee's meeting in the two sessions came to review the strategies of the Ministries of Labor and Transport and their projects and the extent of their compatibility with the Economic Modernization Vision and the Royal Letter of Assignment.

For his part, Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Al-Bakkar said that the ministry, with its branches, works as a team to achieve the drivers of the Economic Modernization Vision and the Royal Letter of Assignment through several programs and initiatives to organize the labor market, including qualifying those wishing to work with skills that simulate and match the needs of the local and foreign markets, or through financing projects from the Development and Employment Fund with incentive ceilings and benefits.

He explained that the ministry and the Vocational and Technical Skills Development Authority are participating in implementing the royal initiative "Productive Branches Spread in the Kingdom's Governorates" with the aim of localizing development, and that the Authority organizes and classifies professions.

Al-Bakkar stated that the ministry is implementing a plan to regulate the labor market through procedures to control illegal expatriate workers and to limit the numbers in each sector to clarify its need for expatriate workers.

He explained that the ministry's plans aim to unify the reference and launch a labor market program to count the skills and numbers of workers and the needs of each sector, to form a database.

In an evening session, the committee met with Minister of Transport Eng. Wissam Tahtamouni, who confirmed that the ministry and its affiliated bodies are working to complete the sector's projects in the economic modernization vision, including the "BRT" project, the mining railway project, the Queen Alia International Airport rehabilitation and expansion project, the Marka Civil Airport rehabilitation project, and the government vehicle tracking project.

She indicated that the Land Transport Regulatory Commission is working to develop and modernize the service, organize the truck sector, and improve land freight service, noting that the Maritime Authority is working to enhance the role of Aqaba Port as a pivotal and main port and develop it.

She said that the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority is working to develop the air transport system, airport operations and improve navigational devices to increase air traffic, noting that the Hejaz Railway Corporation is working to develop rail transport and preserve the historical legacy of the corporation.
