Senator Khawla Al-Armouti Participates in a Seminar on Protecting Women from Economic Violence

Amman – Senator Khawla Al-Armouti, Chair of the Women’s Committee in the Senate, participated on Tuesday in a regional seminar on protecting women from economic violence in Arab countries. In her speech at the seminar, Al-Armouti discussed economic and domestic violence and its impact on Arab women. She emphasized the importance of this issue, which coincides with the violence faced by women in Gaza during the war, highlighting their resilience in one of the toughest environments in the world.

Al-Armouti explained that the practices of economic violence against women undermine their fundamental rights by preventing them from working, controlling their income, and depriving them of inheritance or property rights, in addition to wage disparities and discrimination in economic opportunities. She also pointed to the low participation rates of women in the workforce due to factors such as the wage gap and the lack of adequate child care facilities in some cases.

She highlighted Jordan's role in empowering women and the legal reforms undertaken to protect women from domestic and economic violence. She also noted the country’s efforts to support women through economic and developmental assistance, all of which have been guided by royal directives.

In conclusion, Al-Armouti recommended urgent and sustainable support for the women of Gaza, working to combat economic violence in the Arab world, building regional solidarity for women, exchanging experiences, changing societal cultures, and providing comprehensive legal, psychological, and financial support for survivors of domestic violence.
