Jordanian-Turkish Friendship Committee in the Senate Meets with Turkish Ambassador

Amman, May 7  – The Jordanian-Turkish Friendship Committee in the Senate, chaired by Senator Dr. Yaseen Al-Hasban, met today, Wednesday, with the Turkish Ambassador to the Kingdom, Yakup Oglu.

During the meeting, Senator Al-Hasban emphasized the deep historical ties between Jordan and Turkey, highlighting the importance of building on shared values to strengthen cooperation in various fields, particularly in legislative and political party experiences. He noted this is especially relevant in light of recent political developments in Jordan and the activation of political parties as part of the comprehensive reform framework.

He also underscored the importance of learning from Turkey’s successful healthcare model, which was developed through a unified system that integrates all healthcare sectors, enabling collaboration and inclusive insurance coverage for all citizens.

Al-Hasban expressed appreciation for Turkey’s supportive stance on Jordan’s position regarding the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which aims to preserve their Arab identity and sacred character.

Ambassador Oglu praised the strong historical ties between the two countries and expressed Turkey’s readiness to enhance its partnership with Jordan in various fields, especially in trade, noting that bilateral trade volume has reached nearly one billion USD.

He also highlighted the alignment of the two countries’ political positions on the Palestinian issue and forced displacement, and reiterated Turkey’s support for the Hashemite custodianship and His Majesty King Abdullah II’s ongoing advocacy for the Palestinian cause.

Ambassador Oglu spoke about Turkey’s legislative experience, explaining that the Turkish Parliament consists of 600 deputies representing 81 provinces, and that there are currently 17 political parties in Turkey.

Members of the committee emphasized the value of learning from Turkey’s successful experiences, particularly in tourism, cultural industries, and other sectors.

Both sides affirmed the importance of parliamentary friendship committees in building bridges of cooperation and mutual understanding between peoples, and in promoting joint efforts that serve national interests and support regional stability.
